چکیده
OBJECTIVE To determine whether or not there is an increased level of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), of peripheral white cell count and of associated factors in Chinese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). SUBJECTS AND METHODS Seventy-four patients with PCOS were recruited for the study. The control group consisted of 51 normal healthy women of a similar age and body mass index (BMI). The basic physical parameters, white cell count, CRP, sex hormone and fasting insulin were measured. The glycolipid metabolic index and the insulin sensitivity index were calculated. RESULTS The serum CRP level (2.13 vs. 0.86 mg/l, p < 0.001) and total leukocyte count (7.50 +/- 1.83 vs. 6.55 +/- 1.66 x 10(9)/l, p < 0.01) were significantly higher in PCOS patients than in normal healthy women. Even PCOS patients with normal BMI had an increase in CRP and leukocyte count. The serum CRP level of PCOS patients was positively correlated with BMI (R = 0.57, p < 0.001) and triglycerides (R = 0.47, p < 0.001) and negatively correlated with the insulin sensitivity index (R = -0.60, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION The data showed that chronic nonspecific inflammation exists among Chinese patients with PCOS and that this kind of inflammation was related to insulin resistance, BMI, and triglycerides.

Effect of aerobic training in women with polycystic ovary syndrome
Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder amongst women of reproductive age and is associated with various metabolic perturbations. Chronic low grade inflammation has been reported to participate in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome. In this study we examined the effects of 8 weeks aerobic training on serum C-reactive protein level and cardiometab...
متن کاملPathophysiologic mechanisms of obesity- and chronic inflammation-related genes in etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome
Objective(s): One of the common heterogeneous reproductive disorders in women of childbearing age is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is characterized by lack of fertility due to anovulatory cycles, hyperandrogenemia, polycystic ovaries, hyperinsulinemia, and obesity. Both reproductive anomalies and metabolic disorders are involved in PCOS pathology. Although the r...
متن کاملP-51: The Role of Metformin in Reduction SerumC-Reactive Protein Levels in Women withPolycystic Ovary Syndrome
Background: Low-grade chronic inflammation, reflected in elevated levels of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), has recently been linked to obesity, insulin resistance syndromes such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Because the insulin sensitizer metformin has been shown to improve metabolic disturbances in PCOS, it was of particular interest to ...
متن کاملHbA1c in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome as the Cardiac Risk Assessment
Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder associated with hyperandrogenism marked with hirsutism and ovarian dysfunction. These conditions may lead to the risk of insulin resistance (IR), type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. These conditions are related to PCOS complications hence our aim was to study and investigate the relationship between high-sens...
متن کاملInflammatory Responses of Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Vitro Differ from Healthy Women
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a low-grade inflammatory state with increased serum levels of TNFα. The present study has compared the inflammatory responses to breast cancer cell lines in women with PCOS with healthy women. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from 50 women with PCOS and 50 healthy controls were cultured in the trans-well co-culture system. These cells were ...
